The Johnson family have been synonymous with auto paint & body work since owner, Michael Johnson, was a child. By the time he reached high school he found that if he was in the auto paint & body program for collision repair he only had to attend a half day of school before leaving for his real education.
Often the youngest one at a body shop, he honed his skills in body work but quickly found his passion for painting. Anyone that needed work done knew the kid from Shawnee Oklahoma who was working out of whatever makes-shift garage or shop building he could talk someone into letting him use.
Years of paying his dues making a name for himself not just for his skill as a painter but for his ability to understand a persons vision for their car or truck then create a perfect combination of custom hot rod that wins car shows & a ride that is actually fun to drive.
Kim & Michael Johnson opened Downtown Auto Body at 118 W Main in Shawnee Oklahoma years ago & haven’t looked back since. They are known in the community as the areas hometown body shop harkening back to a time when you could stop by & talk to the owner of a business about your car. Working for the customer instead of the industry they decided early on to not lock themselves in to contracts with insurance companies to make the most profit by doing the minimum but to work with what ever carrier the custom has to get the problem fixed right.
That same kind of hand shake, my word is my bond, old school approach is what DTAB now brings to custom car & hotrod clients. Shows like Good Guys, publications like Street Trucks Magazines, & brands requesting builds for their SEMA booth year after year make DTAB the place to for Paint, Restorations, Upgrades, Body Work, & even full builds.
Years may have passed but in the end if you need work done to your hotrod, truck, muscle car, or anything in between people all over the country will tell you to go find kid from Central Oklahoma who’s not really a kid anymore & who’s graduated from working out of make-shift garages to being one of the most sought after custom car shops in the midwest United States.
